Different Pool Plaster & Finishes to Consider for Your Pool

Long gone are the days where everyone’s pool plaster & finishes were exactly the same. You could go down the street to a friend’s house and swim in a pool that looked identical to the one you swam in while on vacation in another state. Today, the myriad of choices when it comes to pool plaster & finishes is endless. No matter what type of pool plaster & finishes you want for your pool, it can happen. If you want to upgrade the look of your pool, it is important you know what options you have. That is where the experts here at Clear Choice Pool Care & Maintenance come in.

Why There Are So Many Options of Pool Plaster & Finishes Currently

For decades, all pools looked the same. They all had the same basic colors, textures, smells, and looks. This made using them less exciting. It was not until more recently that people started individualizing their pools. Now, you have nearly as many options in pool plaster & finishes as you do in pool sizes. Every home can have a different finish for their pool in one neighborhood, and no two houses will match.

Over time, we have also learned a lot about what pool plaster & finishes last the longest. This means that instead of having to resurface your pool every few years, you now have options that last much longer. On average, plaster pool surfaces last up to a decade. The more you keep your pool clean and balanced, the longer the plaster lasts. However, now some of the better options for the surface of your pool last over two decades. This makes individualizing what options you use a great idea.

Using Aggregate with Your Pool Plaster & Finishes

For many years, plaster was the only option you had when it came to pool finishes. You got either white plaster, or you got a pale blue color, to make the water appear even more blue. That was the extent of your options. Now, that is only the tip of the proverbial iceberg. If you want plaster, you can still have plaster as the surface of your pool. However, there are some better options that can give your pool a look that is as unique as you are.

By adding different types of aggregate either to the concrete mixture, or putting the aggregate on top of the concrete, you get a totally different look. Each stone that is made into the aggregate gives it a unique color and finish. Some stones, like quartz, also add a shiny finish to the pool’s bottom once the finish has completed the drying process. You can also add glass that has been rounded off to the cement. This gives your pool a lot of sparkle without the worry that people will have cut feet. Plus, this allows you to use any color of glass you want, giving your pool a unique finish.

Stones Also Make for Great Pool Plaster & Finishes

Another wonderful option for unique pool plaster & finishes is through the use of stone. Instead of grinding the stone, use them as larger pieces. You can opt for large stones, like flagstaff or river rock. On the other hand, you can also opt for smaller stones like pebbles. These stones are then placed into the cement and allowed to set there as the concrete dries. Once the water is poured into the pool, the look you get is totally unique, since no two sets of stones will be put into the concrete in the same way. You also get a look that is reminiscent of a riverbank. This helps bring out the natural appeal of your backyard any time you are near your pool.

Benefits of Using Different Pool Plaster & Finishes

If you want to have a pool that is going to last for a long time, you need to consider which pool plaster & finishes have the longest lives. Plaster is typically a surface that needs to be replaced every 5-10 years. The more you keep up with your pool maintenance, the longer the plaster lasts. If you opt to go with glass or aggregate, you can expect it to last longer. These will typically last you 10-15 years, sometimes more.

If you opt to go with natural stones, you can expect your pool to last a very long time. Most pool owners do not need to do anything with their pool plaster & finishes other than the occasional patch to the concrete, for at least 20 years. Using natural ingredients as part of your pool plaster & finishes gives you a lot of options. Plus, these ingredients also give you a lot of longevity. These materials are used to being out in nature and lasting for many years. They will do the same thing in your pool, so long as you make sure to take proper care of them.
